The Ombudsman investigates complaints impartially. Once
an award is made by the Ombudsman, it is binding on a
member of the Scheme. It can include up to £5,000 for
aggravation, distress, inconvenience and expenses, where
appropriate. Complaints are investigated free of charge. The
complainants' rights to take legal action are unaffected. If
dissatisfied with a decision, they are still free to take legal
proceedings. The service is restricted to complaints against
funeral directors who are members of the Scheme.
